A defensible plan should answer five questions without hand-waving: How many qualified clients exist in the chosen niche? What does each engagement contribute after direct labor? How long does cash collection take? What happens if the largest client leaves? How much cash remains after a market-rate owner salary and required reserves?
Energy procurement consulting can be attractive because it combines low physical capital with high-value decisions. But the economics depend on trust, state compliance, specialized labor, repeatable delivery, and patient working capital. The winning model is not the one with the highest projected savings or the most supplier relationships. It is the one that converts a carefully defined client problem into measurable value, collectable fees, controlled delivery hours, and repeat business.
