The conservative case produces no distribution because operating cash does not cover debt service and replacement reserves. That does not necessarily mean the doors close immediately; working capital can cover a short ramp. But it means the owner is consuming cash rather than earning a return. The base case produces a reasonable salary plus a distribution, while the upside case depends on both high volume and a strong 15% cash operating margin. That upside should never be the only case used to support a loan.
Working Capital, Compliance, and Equipment Downtime Can Break the Cash Plan
A restaurant can report an accounting profit and still run out of cash. Payroll may leave the bank before card receipts settle.
