If the owner works as the full-time manager, add a reasonable manager wage to understand total economic benefit. Then remove that wage when valuing the business for an absentee buyer who must hire a replacement manager.
The base case is intentionally restrained. A founder could draw more by postponing repairs, underfunding taxes, or draining prepaid membership cash, but those actions do not increase sustainable earnings. They move obligations into the future. Lenders and buyers usually focus on normalized cash flow after replacing owner labor and correcting under-spending.
