Payback stretches when a large project starts late, a vendor requires an early deposit, a customer holds retainage, or the company hires ahead of backlog. To be fair, a strong installed base can also improve the exit value because service relationships, trained staff, manufacturer authorization, and customer concentration all influence what a buyer may pay.
