A marketplace can help validate demand, but its fees must be treated as a variable cost rather than “marketing that happens later.” Etsy’s official fees policy states that its transaction fee is 6.5% of the displayed price plus shipping and gift wrapping. A personalized item should not be priced as a blank product plus a small decoration fee.
