Break-even should be calculated in both revenue and rental sessions. Revenue tells the lender how much sales volume is required. Sessions tell the operator whether that volume fits the fleet, opening hours, weather window, and launch capacity.

The quick lesson is that a high ticket does not automatically solve a high fixed-cost site. The staffed case collects $10 more per booking than the base case and still needs about 108 additional sessions because rent and payroll are larger. Before signing a concession agreement, divide required sessions by realistic open days and then by usable weather windows. If the answer implies seventy rentals on every sunny Saturday and almost nothing can be sold on weekdays, the lease is carrying too much risk.

Boards, trailers, computers, and other equipment may be depreciable business property. The IRS explains that machinery, equipment, vehicles, and furniture can be depreciated, and current rules should be reviewed with a tax professional through IRS Topic 704 on depreciation. A tax deduction can improve after-tax cash flow, but it does not repair a weak operating margin or replace the cash used to buy equipment.
