Road accident or tow mismatch: verify gross vehicle and combination weight ratings, axle loads, braking, hitch setup, and driver qualifications. FMCSA says Class A CDL rules generally apply when a combination reaches 26,001 pounds or more and the towed unit exceeds 10,000 pounds, subject to the detailed rule and state requirements.
