The conservative case shows why revenue alone can mislead: $1.8 million of sales produces little distributable cash when gross margin is thin and overhead is established.

A simple payback of two to four years may look attractive for a well-run light-production shop, but it can stretch when receivables grow faster than profit, custom inventory becomes obsolete, a major customer leaves, or replacement equipment is required.
