Set at least four pricing controls: a minimum order, a delivery-zone fee, a heavy-access surcharge for stairs or long carries, and a fuel or emergency surcharge trigger. The quickest improvement usually comes from route density, average bags per stop, and pricing discipline. Cutting wholesale salt cost by 50 cents per bag helps, but eliminating twelve miles and forty minutes from a route can help more. Working-capital controls should include card-on-file for households, deposits for large seasonal orders, credit limits for commercial buyers, and supplier terms that expand only after the route proves turnover. A winter prebuy is not automatically smart: unsold salt may remain usable, but it consumes storage, insurance, handling, and debt capacity.
