The model should make those relationships visible instead of hiding them in one revenue-growth percentage.
Model Flow: From Assumption to Owner Cash
Each operating assumption should move at least one cash-flow line, not just the revenue forecast.

The model should include at least three operating cases. The conservative case should assume slower close rates, lower margin, more warranty labor, and delayed collections. The base case should use proven supplier quotes and realistic crew capacity. The upside case should show what happens when monitoring contracts, repeat installer referrals, and inventory turns improve. A credible model does not guarantee profitability; it shows where profitability is likely to break.
The strongest planning habit is to review the model every month against actuals. Update average invoice, labor hours, gross margin, callback rate, receivable days, inventory turns, and cash balance. If the model says the business is profitable but the cash balance is falling, the problem is usually working capital, debt service, underpriced labor, or growth that is being financed by the owner. Fix those assumptions early. In a solar power inverter business, the numbers are not back-office paperwork; they are the operating system.
