Engine policy is not just a legal footnote; it affects gross margin and funding. The quick planning rule is simple: every month of delay costs one month of burn, but it may not add one month of revenue. The practical target is not the highest possible price. The important insight is that owner income becomes more stable when the company has a pipeline: one title in production, one title in launch support, one back-catalog title still selling, and possibly work-for-hire or porting revenue. A one-title studio can show strong profit one year and no owner draw the next year because the team is funding the next build.
