Description

Track each employee's worked and unworked days for a selected month, apply the daily rate tied to that employee's position, and review the resulting monthly pay in one structured Excel workflow.

The workbook is designed for small-business owners, HR teams, people managers, and payroll staff who need a simple monthly record of attendance-based pay. You set the company details, year, employee positions, and daily rates, then add employees and mark their daily status. The tracker summarizes worked days and monthly salary for each employee and shows a total monthly salary figure. Payroll taxes and jurisdiction-specific tax rules are outside the workbook's calculation scope.

Track daily attendance status

Record whether each employee worked or did not work across the days of the selected month, with the tracker supporting months of up to 31 days.

Apply position-based daily rates

Assign employees to defined positions so the corresponding daily rate can be used in the payroll calculation.

Review monthly pay by employee

See each employee's worked-day count and calculated monthly salary together with the overall monthly salary total.

What does this workbook help you track and calculate?

The template connects a basic employee setup table with a monthly time-tracking grid. Its purpose is to make the inputs behind daily-rate payroll visible: who worked, which position and rate applies, how many days were worked, and what monthly pay follows from those entries.

  • Set the company name and current year used in the workbook.
  • Define employee positions and the daily rate associated with each position.
  • Select the month to display in the employee time tracker.
  • Add employee names and choose their positions from the available list.
  • Mark each day as worked or unworked using the workbook's W and U status entries.
  • Review worked days, employee monthly salary, and the combined total monthly salary generated from the tracker.

What is inside the workbook?

The visible workbook views separate setup assumptions from the monthly employee tracker. Yellow input areas are used for editable entries such as company information, employee positions, daily rates, employee names, and daily status selections. The tracker then presents the resulting worked-day counts and monthly salary figures alongside the daily attendance grid.

Settings inputs

Enter the company name, current year, employee positions, and the daily rate assigned to each position before using the tracker.

Monthly time-tracking grid

Select a month, list employees, assign positions, and mark worked or unworked status for each calendar day shown.

Payroll summary outputs

Use the worked-day count, employee-level monthly salary, and total monthly salary to review the month's attendance-based payroll before any separate tax treatment.

Employee time tracker with worked and unworked daily status
The monthly employee tracker shows names, positions, day-by-day worked or unworked status, worked-day totals, employee monthly salary, the selected month, and a total monthly salary figure.

See attendance and monthly pay in the same view

The time-tracking sheet makes the payroll inputs easy to audit visually. Each employee occupies one row, daily W and U entries show attendance status, and the right side of the sheet summarizes worked days and monthly salary. This layout is useful when a manager wants to review the underlying attendance record before relying on the monthly payroll total.

Payroll time calculator settings with employee positions and daily rates
The Settings view contains editable company information plus the employee-position list and daily rates used by the time tracker.

Set the rate structure before entering daily activity

The Settings sheet establishes the inputs that drive the employee tracker. Define the positions relevant to your team and enter the corresponding daily rate for each one. When employees are assigned a position in the tracker, the workbook uses that position's rate in the payroll calculation.

How do you use the template?

  1. Complete the settings

Enter the company name and year, then define the employee positions and daily rates you want available in the tracker.

  2. Select the month

Open the employee time-tracking sheet and choose the month from the month selection field.

  3. Add employees and positions

Enter employee names and assign each person to the appropriate position so the corresponding daily rate can be applied.

  4. Mark worked and unworked days

Record W for worked days and U for unworked days across the displayed calendar days for each employee.

  5. Review the monthly totals

Check each employee's worked-day count and monthly salary, then review the total monthly salary. Apply any taxes or country-specific payroll adjustments outside the workbook as required.

Who is this template for?

This workbook fits teams that pay employees using daily rates and need a straightforward monthly record linking attendance status to pay. It can support small-business owners reviewing payroll, HR or payroll staff maintaining employee time records, and managers who want a clear month-by-month view of worked days and resulting salary amounts. It is narrower than a full payroll-tax system: the template focuses on time tracking, daily-rate assignment, and monthly salary calculation rather than country-specific tax rules or payroll compliance.
